Maintaining Acid-Alkaline Balance in the Body

Q. I have HAD to watch my pH for over 30 years.  That means I have to juice fresh veggies, at least a couple glasses a day to keep my pH up.  When I consume a lot of alcohol drops (like the Pekana products) my pH goes completely yellow on the test strips I use.  And my pH won’t budge until I stop the Pekana drops. This is what happened with the alcohol drops I took over 20 years ago. I had no idea at that time what alcohol drops could do to me.  I went into severe diarrhea and throwing up, to where I was close to being rushed to the hospital.  I am drinking two glasses a day of cucumber and celery juice; today my pH is yellow and not budging.  I am so sad I don’t want to have to quit this program.  Has anyone else had this issue?  Please tell me there is something I can do that will bring my pH up and will allow me to continue with the Pekana program. I have put my heart and soul into completing this program.

A. Many issues create an acidic condition in the body, including stress. Toxins absorbed by the body could create a highly acidic bodily terrain. The other issue is incorrect diet, which doesn’t seem to be an issue for you. The Pekana homeopathic product, Lactic Plus, not only corrects the pH of the body, but also delivers 300% more oxygen to the energy-producing organelle inside the cells. It is an excellent product; unfortunately it is banned in Europe.

I recommend that you feed yourself through enemas. If you are using healthy juicing methods and it is still not correcting the pH, a slow daily enema of fresh juice, including wheat grass juice, would be the preferred method to ensure that you are absorbing healthy nutrients. When someone is eating healthy foods and the necessary results are not achieved, it is usually due to malabsorption. The one-hour long enema, with a slow drip, is a way to bypass this problem.

As for your allergy and reaction to alcohol, yes, it is true that the Pekana homeopathic remedies are preserved in a high-grade alcohol. However, in cases such as yours, the company has assured me that one can bring water to a low- steam heat and then add the remedies to remove the alcohol through evaporation; we recommend that you try to do this. (Remove water from heat source and always avoid the use of metal pans and utensils.)  This method does dilute the effectiveness but not enough that it presents a big problem.

Allergies and Muscle Testing – A Tool

Q. How can I figure out if I am allergic to specific foods?  I seem to crave and want the foods that are recommended for me to avoid.

A. Food cravings are a sign of imbalance in the body. Most often we crave foods that we are allergic to. The more we eat of it, the more we want it. When you go on an elimination diet such as the Body Ecology Diet (by Donna Gates), as featured in How to Facilitate the Healing of Chronic and Systemic Disease, your body may go through withdrawal symptoms.

Food Sensitivities: There is increasing evidence that food sensitivities are more common than previously thought and have a wide and varied impact on health. In general, food sensitivities are the result of toxic responses to food and are divided into two categories: allergic responses; and food intolerances. Food sensitivities may cause fatigue, gas, bloating, mood swings, nervousness, migraines and eating disorders. These symptoms which are more commonly related to food intolerance are less often associated with the consumption of food and so therefore, more difficult to diagnose. Diagnosis can also be difficult because symptoms may be delayed for up to two days after a food has been consumed.

Food allergies: Food allergies are defined as toxic reactions to foods that involve the immune system. The immune system is most active in the areas of the body that have some direct contact with the outside world such as the skin, lungs, nose and gastrointestinal tract. The majority of potentially harmful molecules enter your body through your intestinal tract therefore, it is not surprising that over 60% of immune activity occurs in this area. The most common symptoms for food allergies include vomiting, diarrhea, blood in stools, eczema, hives, skin rashes, wheezing and a runny nose. Symptoms can vary depending upon many variables including age, the type of allergen (antigen), and the amount of food consumed. Acute allergic reactions can result in anaphylactic shock (difficulty in breathing), which is a true medical emergency.

Muscle testing: Muscle testing can be a useful tool to determine allergies or sensitivities to foods and other substances. It is is a form of applied kinesiology often used by acupuncturists, chiropractors, and naturopathic physicians, you can also use it on yourself. If the person doing the testing is clear and knows how to do it properly, it is a tool that allows you to ask your body yes and no questions.  The idea behind it is that the muscles of your body weaken when exposed to certain toxins and allergens. In this way, its figured that a strong muscle response means ‘yes’ and weakened or absent muscle strength means ‘no’. It bypasses conscious thought and utilizes intuitive and energetic systems. Once you try several methods you’ll get a feel for your own muscle strength when using these methods and will be better able to interpret your bodies answers. It can be used to figure dosages for supplements, herbs, or vitamins, etc.Note: We advise contacting your health care provide if in doubt of any serious illness or injury.

Self Testing

  • “O’ method: Using the thumb and index/forefinger (1st finger), make an ‘O’  using your non-dominant hand. (It’s almost like making the ‘OK’ sign but in this case, the thumb and forefinger are just meeting, not overlapping). Think of something pleasant and try to pull apart your fingers where they meet by inserting the thumb and forefinger of your opposite hand inside the ‘O’  (they resemble small tweezers trying to open inside the ‘O’).  There should be resistance (strong muscles = ‘yes’). Now, think of something you dislike or know you are allergic to and try to pull the fingers apart. It should be easy to do so (weakened muscles = ‘no’).
  • Standing method: Stand up straight with arms to your side, your face looking forward and chin level to the ground, preferably with bare feet and standing outside so you are grounded to the earth (it also works indoors with shoes on). Think of something pleasant, ask yourself a yes or no question or hold a substance in one hand that you wish to test. If your body leans backward (remaining straight and standing up) – it is considered a ‘no’ answer. If your body leans forward, it is considered a ‘yes’ answer.

Testing with a 2nd person

  • Stand with your arm level to your shoulders and straight out in front of you (this tests the bodies Central meridian) or straight out to your side at shoulder level (this tests the Lung meridian). Have someone stand facing you with their hand placed on the shoulder opposite of your outstretched arm. Have them test the muscle strength in arm you are holding out, by pushing firmly down on it. This is your standard muscle strength. Now test some food you know you are not allergic to, held in the hand of the arm at rest, or think of something pleasant.  The person testing you should push down on your outstretched arm. If it weakens, you are allergic or it is a negative or ‘no’ answer. If it stays strong, you are not allergic and it is a positive or ‘yes’ answer.

What Causes Fatigue?

Have you ever wondered about the causes of fatique? Read on for more information about the possible causes.

Q. What are the causes of fatigue?

A. There are different types of fatigue. One is the type where you have difficulty with muscular strength, and going up the stairs seems harder than what it should be. The other one is fatigue from working, even in front of a computer, for instance. The one has to do with metabolic energy and the other with stamina. Fatigue could have several root causes, and a naturopathic clinic can usually establish which one of these it is.

1. Hormonal causes: When testosterone and progesterone are low, this will be felt in muscular strength. A saliva test given over the course of a day is needed to establish the exact ratios of hormone levels. Often doctors only give women automatic estrogen replacement therapy without doing a saliva test to determine whether or not testosterone and progesterone are low as well.

2. Glucose (sugar) metabolism: If glucose is not metabolized effectively in order to produce energy that reaches the muscles, muscle strength will also be weak.

3. Candida: Review the Candida symptoms here to determine if you may have this condition.

4. Epstein-Barr virus: EBV belongs to the herpes virus family and is one of the most common human viruses. When children are infected with EBV, the virus typically doesn’t cause any symptoms. When teens or young adults get it however, they often develop infectious mononucleosis (‘mono’ or ‘the kissing disease’). Although most cases of mono clear up in a month or two, EBV remains dormant (inactive) inside the person’s immune system cells. Most people have some traces of this virus in their body (95% in the US), because they have been exposed to it through other people, even though it may not have ended up as a full-blown case of diagnosed mononucleosis. It is often found that people who have had mono, have been treated with antibiotics  (used to treat symptoms such as tonsillitis, lymph gland swelling, etc.) and therefore have Candida. Although Epstein-Barr virus is claimed to be incurable, we have had tremendous success in treating it, along with Candida, on the 5-month Chronic Disease program, see here.

Note: It has been found that tung oil used for the manufacture of oil paints, varnishes, waterproof substance, anti-corrosives and other products, have EBV-activating potency. It is highly recommended to avoid all products that contain tung oil.

Euphorbia tirucalli, isa succulent cactus-like plant from South Africa, introduced as a garden and common houseplant (known also as pencil cactus, petroleum plant or milkbush). The sap of this plant has been clinically documented as actually promoting cancer development, suppressing the immune system, and activating dormant Epstein-Barr virus.

Xylitol as a Sweetener

Handy Health Hint:

Regarding the us of Xylitol as a sweetener: ”After writing the program for How to Facilitate the Healing of Chronic and Systemic Disease, I have subsequently found that Xylitol may be carcinogenic and I recommend only the use of Stevia as a sweetener (without alcohol, organic if possible).  Stevia is a super-food and has many health benefits beyond its use as a sweetener.”

Gateway Between Inner and Outer Realities

Q.  Could you elaborate on auto-immune disorders in relation to the thymus and the condition known as Myasthenia Gravis?  This condition results in weakened muscles due to faulty transmission of nerve impulses across nerve and muscle junctions. It’s a rare condition mainly affecting women.  The thymus can sometimes develop a growth and is sometimes removed, so the blood and lymph are affected and the body loses it’s natural defense. Drug treatment with steroids helps but of course has nasty side effects. Your thoughts on the deeper underlying causes would be very much appreciated. I’m asking on behalf of someone dear, who I’m working with, along side conventional treatment.

A. The thymus is the gateway between inner and outer realities. Auto-immune disorders have to do with the inner war between the passive and the active. The inner reality that is so seldom brought to it’s full capacity is the place where the subtle nuances through the inner senses of Infinite intent are received. The outer reality then interprets them into action. Auto-immune diseases come from either despising our humanness or our physicality (some religious backgrounds teach of the unworthiness of the flesh and Eastern religions seek to escape it through expansion). It should instead be considered a unique perspective of the Infinite examining Itself – the perspective of inspiration of Self-inspiration. It is therefore necessary that time is taken for stillness. Examine deprecating feelings towards the body and feelings of unworthiness, and  take the time to see the value of the body, sending appreciation and praise into various areas of the body (the genitals as well as the physical shape of the body are areas where self hatred is present). Learning to take time to listen to the inner senses is vital and getting rid of self-destructive feelings because of hopelessness is another worthwhile endeavor for anyone who has an auto-immune disorder.  If steroids have been taken, it is very important that the 5-month purification and detoxification program should be done every time they are taken as the ‘nasty side effects’ of the steroids will be present and only worsen over the years.

Mystery of Menopause

Q. Is there any piece of wisdom that you could give one to help cope with menopause?

A. Menopause is definitely a stage where the discomfort is optional. It produces releases from the liver in the form of hot flashes. If one were to go through the 5-month purification program, How to Facilitate the Healing of Chronic and Systemic Disease that I have recommended, the liver will be cleansed in a way that there is no further need for these unpleasant experiences. It also helps to balance the emotions. In case there are still mood swings, depression, etc, I recommend adding in Psy-stabil to be used 15 drops, 3-4 times per day. This is also a very helpful spagyric homeopathic remedy (see What are Spagyric Homeopathic remedies? post of 3/3/13) to give teenagers during the very emotional time of the first year’s of menstruation. In the case of severe menopausal symptoms, acupuncture by a proficient practitioner is also very helpful because it assists to balance the endocrine system. In the rare event that we still have any menopausal symptoms after the 5-month purification program and acupuncture , the thyroid function should also be boosted with apo-Strum to strengthen the thyroid with a dosage of ¼ to ½ teaspoon, 2 or 3 times a day.
